I specifically wanted something that threw a lot of light for playing games as my other lighting is more for "mood" and ambiance and wasn't doing the trick for when I needed more light to see cards and board games. This worked great.... if you don't want a lot of light I recommend a dimmer. Supposedly it is compatible though I recommend specifically asking what dimer to order as dimmers with LEDs can be an issue if you get the wrong one you will have "flicker".
