Overall, I really enjoyed the second book in the Sunwalker series, but maybe not quite as much as the first. Just like the first book, this book is both imaginative and well written. The author seems to know exactly where she plans to take this series. The storyline isn't a rehash of the 1st and it didn't completely run a predictable course either. I thought the writing and flow of this book also greatly improved over the 1st.However, a couple of things did keep me from giving this read five stars. The tone was definitely more somber than the first and the humor seemed to be missing. I'm not sure if it was a slower pace or somber tone, that kept me from joyfully devouring this one in just one go. Three quarters the way through, interest and pace did seem to pick up quite nicely and I quikly read through the rest without difficulty. I think the majority of my issue was the somber and somewhat depressive beginning. Hopefully the humor returns in the next book. But as I said, I still really enjoyed this book, and it was a fairly quick read. Not many books have peeked my interest as of late, so I'm definitely looking forward to reading more from this author in the future. For those that haven't read the first book in this series, I strongly suggest starting there first.I really enjoyed this second installment in the Sunwalker series. The story continues to be well written and well edited, with plenty of action, adventure and plot twists. The main character, Morgan Bailey, and her friends continue to hunt supernatural beings and solve mysteries, but this story brings more personal growth, new powers, and new supernatural knowledge. We learn more about her friend and witch, Kabita's ,family and bring in the British MI-8 (supernatural division) for intrigue.I highly recommend reading these books in order, because they don't do well as stand alone stories, IMHO. I think someone who hasn't read the first book would not get as much out of this second one and would be a bit overwhelmed. There are sexual scenes and violence in this book and some mild profanity. I am on to book 3. Each book brings things to a resolution point, so no cliffhangers, but each book also leaves themes open for the next book to carry on with; relationships to continue, bad guys who got away, powers to explore, etc...Heat factor hot.I strongly suggest you read the previous book in the series [Kissed by Darkness] prior to reading this installment. This second installment was intense and explosive! I loved everything about it, especially the dragons. The author really knows how to snag her audience's attention and keep you hooked right from the beginning to the very end. My attention was completely cemented to the story, which was so exquisitely done, I never wanted this book to end. When I first begin a book, I usually have a slightly difficult time settling into the plot and getting immersed into the story. However, not with this series. I fell right into the storyline so smoothly and effortlessly right from the start. The author does a marvelous job at intertwining multiple mythologies into one storyline that is simply brilliant, with flawless character development and world depictions.I highly recommend this series to fellow dark urban fantasy readers and I anxiously await the next book Kissed by Smoke due out 12/2011. I also look forward to reading the authors new series Dragon Wars, first book Dragon Warrior.I also recommend:I received Book One for free, knowing that I 'wouldn't get hooked'. I was wrong! Once I started Book One, I didn't put it down. I Had to have Book Two. The plot is unusual, a "PI" sort of person that hunts & kills vampires. Okay, no big deal. I was wrong. The plot is unusual, the characters are unusual, some are so memorable yet there are a few that are similar to that woman that reads cards or the guy that teaches or the woman that works in an office and that is part of allure of this. The characters are believable! You know that fellow that is such a charmer? He's here. The story is interesting, with history, magic, love, trust & betrayal, this is an "oh...what happens next?" kind of book.Yeah, I'm hooked.BTW, the writing is good, easy to read and there's also humor. I'd say, go for it. It's fun.I should preface this review with the fact that I read this second book in the series, along with the first one Kissed by Darkness, within the course of two days. The arrival of Hurricane Irene forced me to stop reading this one about 3/4 of the way through, and boy was I ticked. Instead of charging my cell phone with my little battery pack (which would have been the smart thing to do) I charged my ipad instead so I could finish this book! That right there, ladies and gentlemen, is the hallmark of a great book.I don't want to give away any plot points because the uniqueness suffers if you know ahead of time, but I'll just say that the author did another stellar job of mixing myths, history, and dynamic characters together to come up with a second novel that rivals the first in terms of quality and first-rate writing. Another Fab 5 stars!Don't listen to those lazy people with no perseverance, this book is still a solid enjoyable read, bogged a little in the middle, but it's very difficult to build a proper story, and keep the pace full of fights and explosions, and very specifically to one of the whiners, I don't believe she mentioned her libido any more than the first book, actually I think it was less. As far as the pace, this generation of readers has been spoiled by movies that are all action and effects, no substance, they can keep that mess, I'll take a book like this any day. On to the next.
